This involves an information management expert and a logistics specialist. As part of a seven-member team, they will help coordinate the assistance of EU member states for Myanmar and ensure that this aid aligns well with the international aid provided by the UN. The focus is primarily on gaining insight into access to affected areas and organizing logistics and transport. The team operates from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur and starts this week.
The Netherlands has a pool of disaster specialists with various expertise. They can be deployed in the Netherlands and can also be nominated for requests from the UN and EU for international disaster teams. The EU and the UN fund their deployment.
The UN, the International Red Cross, and Dutch aid organizations collaborating in the Dutch Relief Alliance are currently providing emergency aid in Myanmar, thanks in part to multi-year and flexibly deployable funding from the Netherlands. ‘These organizations receive these financial resources in advance, so they can act quickly and provide assistance in emergencies like the one currently in Myanmar,’ says Minister Klever. The Dutch Relief Alliance was able to urgently allocate 3 million euros to help earthquake victims with food, water, and shelter.
