Work begins in Neede Noord Oost
On Thursday afternoon, 12 March, the start of the implementation of the public space works in Neede Noord Oost was celebrated. This district is set to be completely renovated. A key part of this is the renewal of the public space.
Councillor Arjen van Gijssel looks back with satisfaction on the celebratory meeting for sub-area South, which is the first to be tackled. “I am incredibly pleased that we are taking this important step in Neede Noord Oost. After years of planning, we are now really starting to address the public space. This means that the streets will have to be temporarily opened, but the result will be worth it: a beautiful district where people can live with pleasure.”
Sustainable and future-proof
The ‘integral neighbourhood approach Neede Noord Oost’ project aims to make the district future-proof. The existing homes will be made more sustainable and suitable for longer-term living. We have already started on this together with ProWonen. We will also be renewing the public space, both above and below ground. In addition, we are preparing the district better for extreme weather. Contractor Dusseldorp will carry out the works.
Liveability, social cohesion and self-reliance
In addition to these changes in the neighbourhood itself, the project also focuses on social improvements. Think of increasing liveability, strengthening the bonds between residents and promoting self-reliance. The municipality and housing corporation ProWonen are working closely together on this.
Resident sessions led to the design
From May 2025, we worked with residents in the district on the designs for the public space. In various design sessions for the three sub-areas, they were able to contribute ideas and input. In sub-area South, the design is final and we are starting the implementation.
