Borough of Borne participates in final edition of National Tile Removal Championship
Out with the tiles, in with the green! The Borough of Borne is once again taking part in the National Tile Removal Championship. From March 19 to October 31, residents across the Netherlands, together with local authorities, will take on the challenge of replacing as many tiles as possible with greenery.
This nationwide initiative is helping us work together to create a climate-resilient and healthy living environment. Fewer tiles mean better water drainage during heavy rain, more cooling on hot days, and a more pleasant living climate.
Wip & Win: a special piece of green
This final edition is extra special. Participants now have the chance to win unique pieces of greenery through the so-called Wipshop. Think of rare plants or greenery with a story, sourced from well-known locations in the Netherlands. Perhaps you’ll soon have a piece of Artis in your backyard or see your rabbit hopping around on a patch from the Veluwe. This way, you’re not only making your garden greener but also more unique.
Earn a free tree
If you’re getting started in your garden, you can also earn a free tree in the Borough of Borne. A great opportunity to make your garden even greener while contributing to biodiversity and cooling.
Tile taxi helps you on your way
Have you removed tiles but don’t have a way to dispose of them? Make use of the tile taxi from Twente Milieu. They’ll pick up the tiles for free, so you can easily continue greening your space.
Why participate?
The climate is changing. We’re facing more frequent extreme rainfall and heatwaves. Tiles trap water and absorb heat, while greenery provides cooling and better absorbs rainwater. What’s more, a green environment contributes to your well-being: even a short time in nature can reduce stress and boost your energy.
Get involved!
Everyone can participate. Remove tiles from your garden, replace them with plants, grass, or flowers, and report your removed tiles via the National Tile Removal Championship website.
