Boxtel Municipality Makes Granny Annexes Possible

The Boxtel Municipality is making it easier to create granny annexes with new regulations. A granny annex can be added within an existing home, in an outbuilding, or in a temporarily placed unit.

The Granny Annex

A granny annex is a small, temporary living space on the same property or within an existing home. This can help meet the high demand for housing at present. Unlike care annexes, a granny annex does not necessarily involve care. It can be occupied by family members or acquaintances. A granny annex can also provide temporary housing for young people who have not yet found their own home.

A granny annex is always temporary, with a maximum duration of 15 years. This allows for additional living space to be created easily within existing neighbourhoods.

Other Rules Also Simplified

In addition to granny annexes, the rules for corner plots, solar panels, roof extensions, bed and breakfasts, and temporary housing have also been simplified and clarified. This will enable permit applications to be processed more quickly and carefully.

Alignment with the Environment and Planning Act

With the introduction of the Environment and Planning Act, it is important that municipal regulations are logical and unambiguous. In practice, it became clear that some aspects of the policy could be better developed. The municipality has therefore improved and tightened its policy to prevent differences in interpretation.
