De Fryske Marren focuses on circular economy
From Thursday 19 to Friday 27 March, the municipality of De Fryske Marren will be highlighting the circular economy. Throughout this period, various activities focused on sustainability and reuse will take place across the municipality. These include National Tree Planting Day, the start of the Dutch Tiling Removal Championship and the Himmelwike.
During the national week of the circular economy, schoolchildren will visit sustainable businesses in the region. They will discover how companies are working towards the future and what opportunities exist in the job market. Entrepreneurs will meet in Balk during the 'Know Your Neighbour' business networking lunch, where collaboration and circular entrepreneurship are the main themes. The Joure Library will also be paying close attention to sustainability. On 27 March at 3:00 PM, alderwoman Irona Groeneveld will read from a book on this topic, followed by activities for both young and old.
From waste to raw material
The circular economy is about making smart use of raw materials. Products and materials are given a second life, and waste is reused as a raw material.
“The circular economy starts close to home. In the classroom, with entrepreneurs and simply at home,” says alderwoman Irona Groeneveld. “With these activities, we show that everyone can contribute. Together, we are making De Fryske Marren more sustainable, step by step.”
Working together for a circular future
The week invites residents and entrepreneurs to get involved. The activities provide inspiration and practical examples. De Fryske Marren is demonstrating how much is already being done and how much more is possible.
