Enschede to host tile-pulling competition again
Municipalities in Twente are competing against each other. From Thursday, March 19, tile-pulling will be in full swing again in Enschede. The Dutch National Tile-Pulling Championship has begun!
In this fun competition, the goal is to replace as many tiles as possible with flowers, plants, and trees. Once again, Enschede will compete against more than a hundred other Dutch municipalities. Within Twente, we will also face off against Borne, Haaksbergen, Hengelo, Hof van Twente, Losser, Oldenzaal, Rijssen-Holten, Twenterand, and Wierden. Join in and help Enschede win the Golden Tile!
Take a look around your home to see where a tile could make way for nature. A green space retains water, cools your garden on hot days, and provides shelter and food for animals like bees and butterflies. Moreover, plants and flowers add color and vibrancy to your garden.
Join in the fun
Between March 19 and October 31, anyone in Enschede can register their pulled tiles at nk-tegelwippen.nl. These will be automatically added to Enschede’s Tile Count.
Tile service and cost contribution
If you decide to pull tiles, the municipality can contribute to the costs. Subsidies are also available for creating a front garden. You can apply for this online at enschede.nl/subsidie-klimaatadaptatie. You can also have your pulled tiles collected for free by the Tile Service, provided you participate in the Dutch National Tile-Pulling Championship.
