Grand opening of SporThuis Gilze draws large crowds
On Saturday, March 14, the long-awaited moment arrived: SporThuis Gilze officially opened its doors. Mayor Derk Alssema and Alderman Corné Machielsen, together with local triathlete Maaike Frijters from Gilze, inaugurated the new sports hall. Residents of Gilze were then invited to explore SporThuis, and they did so in large numbers—the entire day saw a steady stream of athletes, residents, and other visitors.
Following a sporting “challenge,” the mayor, alderman, and Maaike Frijters pressed a button to symbolically open SporThuis Gilze. Percussion group Gils Geweld provided a festive soundtrack that could be heard throughout the area. The new catering venue, Backyard (a nod to Achter de Tuintjes), was ready to welcome everyone with snacks and drinks. Sports clubs, neighborhood sports coaches, and the Hyrox athletes from BOX26 organized various demonstrations and activities throughout the day.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this well-attended and successful open day, as well as all the visitors who came out to celebrate the occasion!
