New filling of the water tower is one step closer
Monday, March 16, 2026
The 25 Septemberpark is finished, but wouldn't it be great if the Water Tower also buzzed with activity. This way, we can make the center more lively in a beautiful new piece of green. For this, the tender process is now starting, but we are doing this together with you. What the city wants carries significant weight. An entrepreneur and resident will help us assess the proposals.
The water tower
Since January 1, 2024, the water tower has been back in our possession. It is currently the tallest building in Helmond. Additionally, it is a monumental building that serves as a recognizable landmark in the center for many residents of Helmond. In the area around the water tower, many developments are taking place. The redevelopment of the water tower offers the opportunity to enrich the 25 Septemberpark with an iconic eyecatcher or meeting place. This fits within the reorientation of the center perspective, where we are working on a lively center for living, working, and recreation.
Participation process
Determining the new filling of the water tower is something we are doing together with residents. In May 2024, the city was invited to think along about the filling of the water tower. More than 2,000 people shared their ideas. Additionally, 606 residents and 41 entrepreneurs indicated they wanted to participate in the tender committee. The results of the survey have been incorporated into the package of requirements.
Tender
Interested parties will soon be able to submit their plans for the water tower through a tender. In the past period, careful preparations have been made for the tender. To get all assessment criteria in a row. For example, a building-historical exploration has been conducted. The tender documents and required attachments have also been filled out and drawn up. These are now ready. The tender goes live on May 1. Interested parties have until July 5 to submit their ideas. On Wednesday, April 1, there will be a first information moment in the water tower for interested parties. Registration for this can be done via.
Assessment committee
The submitted ideas will be assessed based on a package of requirements. For each assessment aspect, an assessment team has been composed. In the assessment aspect 'added value for the city,' the resident and entrepreneur, among others, will take their place.
Follow-up
In September, the assessment committees will meet to assess all submitted ideas. The idea that scores the best on the package of requirements may proceed with the implementation. We hope to be able to report back on this in the autumn.
