Mayor Palmen's personal response to the elections
After a busy and long election day, Mayor Ryan Palmen reflects on the evening, the election period, and the results.
Election Night Municipal Council Elections 2026
Dear residents,
You have spoken. Differences have been made. And now it is time to work together. During a sunny election day, the preliminary results are as follows:
My sincere congratulations to all potential council and citizen council members, party supporters, and volunteers who have wholeheartedly committed themselves to the politics of our municipality. Congratulations on the campaigns that have been conducted!
Now it is up to the politicians. We will work together, create a program, and choose a new executive board. An exciting and intensive period.
New council
Intensive as well is the induction of the new council. Because who thinks you can just sit down in the council chamber and shout a few things? No. The new council will acquire knowledge, develop skills on a wide range of topics. From finances to the Environment and Planning Act, and from integrity to labor migration.
Higher turnout
Thank you to all council and citizen council members who have done so over the past period. They have given shape and substance to our future. With a turnout of 56.4%, the result is slightly higher than the 2022 elections (54.4%). This year, we made an extra effort to increase turnout among voters. For example, we facilitated various debates, delivered the election newspaper to everyone’s mailbox, and paid extra attention to our youngest voters. I am pleased that this has had an effect, even if it is a small one. We must continue to work on representation in our municipality. We are a 'village municipality.' That turnout can be higher, especially when you see what local politics can achieve. It makes a difference.
Administrative organization
I would like to thank all volunteers and colleagues from the administrative organization for the outstanding work done yesterday, today (verification), and over the past months. Everything to ensure these elections ran as smoothly as possible. Congratulations!
Election night
And then looking back on such a fantastic election evening, which I felt was important to share the news—even if it is preliminary—as quickly as possible with everyone in Horst aan de Maas. It was an inspiring and exciting evening!
I look forward to working together with our residents, entrepreneurs, the new council, and the executive board to achieve the very best for Horst aan de Maas. I hope we will reach wonderful milestones in the coming four years and that we can celebrate them together. As we do in our municipality. From the heart.
