Construction of new Leidschendam library begins
With a sledgehammer, Alderman Marcel Belt and Gerard Hendriks, director of Bibliotheek aan de Vliet, officially launched the construction work for the new library location in Leidschendam on Thursday, March 12. Together with library staff, the architect, and the contractor, they visited the building at Fluitpolderplein, where the sledgehammer will first demolish the existing structure before work can begin on a vibrant new library.
Alderman Marcel Belt: "The new library location will be more than just a building for books. We are creating a living room where everyone feels at home. There will also be study spaces, a coffee and sandwich bar, an open stage, a tech area, and a cooking island. Work schedule
First, the current building will be demolished, followed by the renovation. The contractor is expected to complete this work by the fourth quarter of 2026.
