New location for Taalschool in De Veste opened
Taalschool Lelystad has a new location. Alderman Sjaak Kruis officially opened the premises in the Vogelveste in the De Veste neighborhood. Taalschool Lelystad has been teaching children who temporarily live in the Netherlands (children of expats, labor migrants, status holders, and refugees) for more than 12 years. Currently, around 90 students are attending the Taalschool.
Future-proof building
Until the end of 2025, the Taalschool was housed in the old building of Scholengemeenschap Lelystad. Now, the school has a permanent, suitable place. With the move to the Vogelveste, the school has a future-proof building with eight classrooms for students of different ages. To make the building suitable, a small internal renovation took place in January. During the festive opening, in the presence of alderman Kruis and board member Karin Aarden of Stichting SchOOL, the students received poffertjes. Later in the afternoon, neighbors and guests could view the building during an open house.
Transitioning to primary school in their own neighborhood
Students at the Taalschool often do not yet speak Dutch well enough to participate directly in regular primary education. The school offers these students an intensive language program in small groups, with much attention to a safe, structured learning environment and individual guidance. The goal is for students to gain sufficient language skills and confidence within approximately one year to transition to a primary school in their own neighborhood. Parents, other schools, and social organizations play an important role in this collaboration.
