Plot 4 in Park Maashorst reserved for intergenerational courtyard
Municipality of Maashorst, housing corporation Area, and foundation Knarrenhof have signed a reservation agreement for the development of an innovative housing concept in Park Maashorst, plot 4 in Uden. This will be a so-called intergenerational courtyard. With this agreement, the parties have two years to further develop their plans.
In 2019, the former municipality of Uden reserved part of plot 4 in Park Maashorst for the development of new housing concepts. In addition to a maximum of 69 regular homes, including 23 social rentals, Hof van Maashorst will also be developed here. Hof van Maashorst is a collaboration between foundation Knarrenhof and housing corporation Area, on behalf of the youth group Vier-de-Wijk. They are working on an innovative housing concept: an intergenerational courtyard where young and old live together and look out for each other while maintaining privacy. The project will include 47 homes, approximately 20 of which will be social rentals, a shared community space (Hofhuis), and a communal garden (Hoftuin).
The municipality of Maashorst is entering into this reservation agreement with Knarrenhof and Area to formalize the previously agreed-upon principles. This provides all parties with greater certainty as they further develop their plans. “This makes the agreements more concrete and confirms that the location is exclusively reserved for the Hof van Maashorst initiative for two years,” explains alderman Franko van Lankvelt (Spatial Development, Housing). This also allows the parties to move ahead with the purchase and realization agreement.
Within this period, the involved parties will work on a plan that fits well spatially and urbanistically, is economically feasible, and can actually be implemented. The goal is also to finalize the purchase and realization agreement within this timeframe. During this period, the municipality may not sell the location to another party. Hof van Maashorst will pay a reservation fee for this. “We find the housing concept envisioned by Hof van Maashorst—with a mix of young and old and an emphasis on mutual connection—very interesting,” says alderman Van Lankvelt. “That’s why we’re happy to support the reservation.”
The directors of Knarrenhof and Area are pleased with the opportunity provided. Peter Prak of Knarrenhof: “We’re very happy that we can now start developing. What’s special is not only the mix of young and old but also that we’re exploring whether we can accommodate, for example, younger teachers or medical staff from Bernhoven Hospital. In this way, we’re not only blending age groups and income levels but also creating space for professions that are essential to our society.”
Patrick Barské, managing director of Area: “For us, housing goes beyond just a house. With Hof van Maashorst, we’re building a community where residents, young and old, know and help each other. This aligns perfectly with Area’s vision of housing: a nice and affordable home in a neighborhood where you feel connected. With this initiative, we’re showing what’s possible when residents, the municipality, and the corporation work together.”
