Completion of the restructuring of Burgemeesterswijk nears: first 121 homes in final development area under construction
In Maassluis’s Burgemeesterswijk, construction has begun on 121 homes in the final development area of the neighbourhood renewal. This area will be developed in multiple phases. With the start of construction on these new homes, an important step is being taken toward completing the Burgemeesterswijk.
At the construction site, Ruud van Nieuwaal, board member of Maasdelta Groep, councillor Sjoerd Kuiper (responsible for, among other things, spatial planning and housing), and Ronald Snoek, director at construction company VORM, gathered to mark the start of construction on the rental homes. VORM is responsible for building the homes in this development area. Maasdelta is the client for the social and mid-rent homes.
Renewal of Burgemeesterswijk in full swing
The site where construction is now underway previously housed a block of flats that was demolished last year. This location will now feature a varied mix of social rental homes, mid-rent homes, and owner-occupied homes. The development also includes a mix of detached homes and apartments. Construction on the rental homes has now begun.
Ruud van Nieuwaal, board member of Maasdelta Groep, said: “We are delighted that we are now actually building. This is an important step toward completing the Burgemeesterswijk and particularly good news for prospective tenants waiting for an affordable rental home. Together with our partners, we are working here to create a future-proof neighbourhood.”
Councillor Sjoerd Kuiper also stressed the importance of this step for Maassluis. “Thanks to the agreements with Maasdelta, the final phase of the restructuring will see the construction of over 320 new homes to replace 248 outdated ones. Last year, there was still a gallery flat here, and early next year, the last flat—the ‘sinking Zanevelder’—will also be demolished. With the start of construction on 121 social and mid-rent rental homes, we are taking an important step toward a diverse living environment, which will ultimately feature a mix of single-family homes, apartments, social rentals, mid-rent homes, and owner-occupied properties. This brings Maassluis closer to a sustainable and future-proof Burgemeesterswijk. The completion of a 25-year restructuring process is drawing ever nearer.”
Ronald Snoek, director at VORM Bouw, said: “With the start of construction on this part of the plan, we, together with Maasdelta and the municipality, are taking an important step in the renewal of the Burgemeesterswijk. We are proud to be building homes here that contribute to a diverse and future-proof neighbourhood.” The start of construction in this development area shows that the renewal of the Burgemeesterswijk is clearly progressing. Construction is now underway here, while demolition and preparations will take place elsewhere in the neighbourhood later on. Step by step, the renewed Burgemeesterswijk is taking shape as a neighbourhood ready for the future.
