The municipality of Oosterhout is starting construction of the new sustainable town hall in Arendshof II. Once the verification phase is completed, agreements with the contractor and installer will be signed shortly. This officially marks the start of the implementation phase. The new town hall will be located in the heart of the city centre and will contribute to a compact, vibrant and bustling urban core. Responsible alderman Clèmens Piena: “After a long period of preparation, we are now really getting to work on building our new town hall. In the heart of Oosterhout, we are creating a sustainable and accessible place where residents, entrepreneurs and administrators can easily meet each other.” Alderman for a Vibrant City Centre Dees Melsen: “It’s great that we are now really getting started. With the town hall in the heart of the city centre, we will soon be bringing more people to the city centre every day. This will create extra vibrancy and foot traffic for shops, hospitality businesses and facilities. This is another step towards a bustling urban core.”
Start of construction work
Mertens Bouwbedrijf and Van Dijnsen Installatietechniek en Beveiliging will carry out the work on behalf of the municipality of Oosterhout. Next Thursday, construction fencing will be installed and the building will be stripped. Demolition work will begin in week 12. The work will start on the side of Nieuwstraat. This is where the public hall, the company restaurant, the meeting centre and the council chamber will be located. By starting on this side, the building is expected to be wind- and watertight before winter.
Involving the surrounding area
The immediate surroundings will be informed in advance about the construction work. The executing parties will take the lead in this. The municipality will also remain in active dialogue with local residents and entrepreneurs, among other things through a sounding board group that will be set up. Residents and entrepreneurs will be able to participate in the design of the outdoor space around the new town hall. During the construction, a clear and safe routing will also be ensured so that shops and the parking garage remain easily accessible.
Service provision in the heart of the municipality
By locating the town hall in Arendshof II, the amount of retail space in the city centre will decrease. This is a deliberate choice. A more compact city centre will enhance the quality and appeal of the inner city. At the same time, we are bringing municipal services to the heart of Oosterhout. This will generate extra visitor flows every day: residents with appointments, entrepreneurs visiting and employees working in the city centre. This will create more foot traffic for shops, hospitality businesses and facilities. The new town hall will be more than just a workplace. It will be an accessible meeting place where residents, entrepreneurs, civil servants and administrators can meet easily. Want to stay up to date on the construction work?
