Construction begins on new bicycle parking facility at Koornstraat
The municipality of Oss will begin construction on Monday, 13 April 2026, of a new supervised bicycle parking facility at Koornstraat. The current site, which is still used as a car park with sixteen spaces and a few bicycle stands, will be transformed into a modern and secure parking area for cyclists.
A safe and supervised place for bicycles
Currently, the area serves as a parking space for 16 cars, with a few bicycle stands. At weekends, it often accommodates many bicycles belonging to visitors to the hospitality venues. The new facility will provide a supervised, tidy and well-organised space for parking bicycles. The Koornstraat bicycle parking facility is the first of three new supervised parking areas planned in the city. This initiative aims to make it easier for people to cycle to the city centre. It will also help keep the streets tidy. Alderman Sidney van den Bergh says: “It is important that people can park their bicycles safely and under cover in the city. It would be even better if they could also charge their bikes and be welcomed in a friendly manner. We will ensure that this location provides all of that.” The supervised hours have yet to be determined. The new municipal council will decide on these at a later date. However, it is already clear that the Koornstraat facility will have longer supervised hours than the bicycle parking area at De Groene Engel. The new facility will provide a supervised and tidy parking solution for bicycles. The bicycle parking facility is being built by Wagemakers Bouw & Ontwikkeling. Karin Wagemakers of Wagemakers Bouw & Ontwikkeling says: “We are pleased to be building this new supervised bicycle parking facility for the Municipality of Oss. It is a great opportunity to contribute to a safe and modern place for bicycles in the city centre.”
Construction work on the bicycle parking facility
Construction of the facility will run from April to the end of May 2026. Preparatory work will take place between 30 March and 13 April, including closing off the parking area, moving the underground waste containers and installing construction barriers. On Tuesday, 31 March, Koornstraat will be closed. The underground waste containers will then be moved using a crane. During the construction work, there may be increased traffic or temporary inconvenience. We will do everything we can to minimise this.”
