New movement coaches start in Pekela municipality
Désirée Prins and Tim Beijleveldt are the new movement coaches for the Pekela municipality as of today. Together with Jack Kamminga, they form the municipality’s movement team. They operate from the House for Sports Groningen and are committed to making sports and physical activity more accessible, easier, and enjoyable for all residents of Pekela.
Working together for more movement
The movement team has been tasked by the Pekela municipality to collaborate with local organizations such as sports clubs, healthcare providers, schools, neighborhoods, and De Badde to introduce more residents to sports and physical activity.
Activities for young and old
The movement coaches will organize various movement programs for different target groups in partnership with local organizations. These include holiday activities for children and the World Women movement program, specifically for women (16+) who are new to the Netherlands. This year, the movement coaches will also conduct fitness tests for seniors and organize activities for Doortrappen (safe cycling) and fall prevention.
A new boost for sports and movement
The role of movement coach is not entirely new in Pekela. Previously, the neighborhood sports coach at welfare organization De Badde performed this role. Through the collaboration with the House for Sports Groningen, the municipality expects sports and physical activity in Pekela to receive a significant boost.
Municipal councillor for sports Ellen van Klaveren is thrilled about the arrival of the new movement coaches: “Sports and physical activity are important for all residents. Not only for fitness, but also for the social interactions and enjoyment that come with participating in sports and movement activities. With Désirée and Tim, we’re bringing in two experienced and enthusiastic movement coaches to Pekela. Together with our local partners, we want to get even more residents involved.”
Karin Zwart, director of the House for Sports Groningen, is also pleased with this step and the collaboration with the Pekela municipality: “With our team of enthusiastic and experienced movement coaches, we are committed every day to getting people moving. We believe it’s important that everyone has the opportunity to be active every day. By leveraging our knowledge and experience, we aim to inspire and encourage residents in the Pekela municipality to become more active.”
