Children's and Youth Ribbons are awards for children and young people who do something special for others. You can nominate a child or young person for a ribbon until Friday, 16 October 2026. The mayor will present the ribbons on Thursday, 19 November 2026.
What are Children's and Youth Ribbons?
Children's and Youth Ribbons are awards for children and young people who have made a special effort. For example, for a charity, an association, or in another area. Their efforts set an example for others. They deserve to be in the spotlight. The Children's and Youth Ribbons have been awarded since 2020. This idea came from the first Children's Mayor: Remi Bakker.
Who can receive a ribbon?
Children's Ribbon (ages 6 to 12)
A child can receive a ribbon if they live in the municipality of Renkum and, for example:
- regularly helps elderly people, siblings, or the sick;
- has organised an initiative for a charity;
- organises activities in the neighbourhood (starting an activity or initiative with broad relevance);
- does voluntary work, for example at a sports club, youth centre, or community centre;
- makes difficult topics discussable, such as bullying or senseless violence;
- has achieved or performed something remarkable in society.
Youth Ribbon (ages 13 to 18)
A young person can receive a ribbon if they live in the municipality of Renkum and, for example:
- starts an activity or initiative with broad relevance for a Renkum village, district, or neighbourhood;
- makes topics such as alcohol and drug use or abuse discussable;
- has achieved or performed something remarkable in society;
- does voluntary work for a social organisation;
- regularly helps elderly people, siblings, or the sick.
Nominating someone for a ribbon
Do you know a child or young person who is making a special effort for others? Nominate them for a Children's or Youth Ribbon. This can be done easily via the online form. Nominations can be submitted until Friday, 16 October 2026.
What do you need?
- The name of the child or young person
- At least 1 supporting statement. This statement must be written by an adult who is not a direct family member. Without a supporting statement, we cannot process your nomination.
- In the supporting statement, include:
- The name of the child or young person
- Why they deserve a ribbon
- Provide a detailed description of what the child or young person does
- Where and how this takes place
- Optionally, add photos or a video
- The role from which you are writing the statement (e.g., supervisor, teacher, or friend)
What happens to the nominations?
A committee will assess all nominations. The committee includes, among others, the mayor, the Children's Mayor, and 2 council or committee members.
You will be notified as soon as possible whether the nominee will receive a ribbon. If so, you will receive more information about the presentation on Thursday, 19 November 2026.
