D66 and GroenLinks-PvdA launch exploration for ambitious and decisive city governance
D66 ’s-Hertogenbosch and GroenLinks-PvdA have secured the willingness of Paul de Beer and Liesbeth van Tongeren to jointly conduct an exploration for a new municipal executive following the elections of March 18. De Beer currently serves as alderman in Roosendaal, previously in Breda, and is an entrepreneur. Van Tongeren was a member of the House of Representatives, director of Greenpeace, and alderman in The Hague.
As the election winner, D66 has asked GroenLinks-PvdA to actively participate in this exploration. The election results make both parties the largest in the council. At the same time, both parties feel a strong responsibility to form an ambitious and decisive executive that, through good cooperation, serves the interests of the 162,000 residents.
Mariève Craste, D66 ’s-Hertogenbosch lead candidate: “For us, this election result feels like a historic victory. At the same time, it comes with great responsibility. We want to take on that responsibility by taking the initiative and bringing together the positive forces in the city. That is why we are launching this exploration together with GroenLinks-PvdA.” Pieter Paul Slikker, GroenLinks-PvdA lead candidate: “We were pleased to accept D66’s invitation to jointly undertake this exploration. A great result also comes with great responsibility. We want to make progress with an energetic executive that is willing to tackle the major challenges of our time together.”
The goal of the exploration is to map out how the parties in the municipal council interpret the election results, what challenges they see in the coming years, and whether and with which parties they would be willing to contribute to a new executive. De Beer and Van Tongeren will hold discussions with all thirteen parties represented in the municipal council over the coming period.
