Money Week 2026
From Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27, it’s Money Week. During this week, children and young people learn at school more about managing money. Our municipality is also paying extra attention to this.
Money fairy tales: too good to be true?
This year’s theme is ‘Money fairy tales: too good to be true?’. Young people are confronted daily with financial temptations. Think of influencers showcasing a luxurious lifestyle, buy-now-pay-later offers on online purchases, or promotions that seem ‘free’. During Money Week, students learn to look critically at financial matters and discover that what seems attractive isn’t always truly beneficial. This way, they develop skills to make conscious and sensible financial choices later in life.
Help and information for young people
We also support young people with questions about money or financial worries outside of this week.
- Youth Point (ages 16-27) – Young people can go here with questions about money, work, education, or debts.
- Kwikstart – An app and website with practical information about what you need to arrange when you turn 18.
- Calculate your entitlements – Do you live in Sittard-Geleen? You may be entitled to reimbursements and arrangements from the municipality, including ones you might not know exist. You could be missing out on money without realizing it.
Help for families on a low income
Making ends meet on a low income can be challenging. We believe everyone should be able to participate. That’s why there are various arrangements for residents with a low income. Through Vidar, for example, residents can apply for arrangements to support children or help with certain costs. Parents with questions about upbringing and growing up can also turn to Opgroeien in 046. More information about financial matters and support:
