Tree Planting Days in Bosgebied West and near Oud Meer
In March, we will be planting trees in Bosgebied West and in the forests near Oud Meer. We are doing this together with pupils from primary schools, IVN, and Bosgroep. On Thursday, March 26, 2026, you can also join in.
Bosgebied West: Creating a Forest Edge
Together with pupils from De Harlekijn primary school, we will plant a new forest edge in Bosgebied West. We are creating a gradual transition from open grassland to shrubs and then to the forest. The forest edge will consist of native shrubs that suit the soil and environment. This will increase biodiversity. The variety of shrubs will attract insects, birds, and small mammals while providing shelter for the surrounding forest against wind and drying out.
Restoration After Waterlogging
Near Oud Meer, in 2024, several trees died due to prolonged waterlogging. We will replant these open areas. We will deliberately choose a mix of different native deciduous tree species—species that naturally occur here and suit the soil and water system. This will allow a varied forest to grow in these areas again. By diversifying species, the forest becomes stronger. It can better cope with extreme rainfall, drought, and diseases. This way, we are building a future-proof forest with more species, greater resilience, and more life.
In the forest near Oud Meer, pupils from the following schools will be helping:
- De Bloktempel
- Buitenstebinnen
- Sonnewijzer
- De Ruimte
- Stokland
