Municipality supports project ‘Speaking Strong’ to strengthen language development of toddlers
The municipality has financially supported the project Speaking Strong by the Gouwe Academy with a subsidy to strengthen the didactic skills of teachers in the lower grades. The trajectory specifically focuses on stimulating the language development of toddlers, a crucial basis for their further school career.
In the project, teachers followed masterclasses by the Gouwe Academy. All primary schools on Urk could participate, resulting in mixed groups. This composition led to a valuable exchange of experiences and insights among teachers from different schools. The interaction between the participants proved to be very valuable and inspired new collaborations and inspiration in daily practice.
Teachers who have completed three masterclasses receive an official certificate from the Gouwe Academy. During the meeting, alderman Van Klinken was present to personally hand out these certificates.
“It is beautiful to see how this joint approach strengthens education in Urk,” says alderman Van Klinken. “By investing in teachers, we directly invest in the development of our young students.”
The Library provided the picture books multiple times that were used during the masterclasses. The direct contact between teachers and the Library led in some cases to very productive forms of collaboration.
The project Speaking Strong is an example of the joint effort of schools, educators, and the municipality to further increase equal opportunities for all children in Urk.
