The municipality of Weert is installing two new water refill points in Swartbroek and Leuken this month. The installation is made possible by a donation from the Gries Hej Windsfonds. This fund distributes proceeds from the wind turbines along the A2, which are intended to benefit the villages and communities in this area.
In collaboration with the Swartbroek village council and the Leuken neighbourhood council, it was decided to invest the contribution in public water refill points. Both councils, together with water company WML, have selected a suitable location for the installations.
Two central locations
In Swartbroek, the refill point will be located in the village centre at Sint Cornelisplein. This is a central spot where several walking and cycling routes begin. In the Leuken neighbourhood, the refill point will be placed near the chapel on Leukerschansstraat, another location frequented by many cyclists and walkers. The water refill points will allow residents and visitors to fill their bottles free of charge with drinking water from WML.
More water refill points in the municipality of Weert
The installation of these two refill points is not an isolated initiative. This year, more new water refill points will be installed throughout the municipality of Weert, partly thanks to a motion adopted by the municipal council. The locations chosen are (natural) spots where people gather to exercise, play sports, walk, cycle, or meet each other.
