Significantly more homes completed in Winterswijk
Winterswijk saw more than three times as many homes completed last year compared to the previous year. In 2025, 155 homes were added, up from just 46 in 2024. This marks a significant step forward in increasing the housing supply in the municipality.
“The demand for housing in Winterswijk is high. It’s therefore encouraging to see that more homes are now being built. This benefits first-time buyers, families, and those looking to move up the property ladder,” said Alderman Gosse Visser.
Majority of new-build homes
The majority of the new homes were built as new constructions (130 homes). Additional homes were created through the transformation of existing buildings, splitting existing properties, and other smaller developments. Homes were also completed in the hamlets and rural areas, primarily through the splitting of existing homes and the adaptive reuse of buildings.
More homes on the way
Next year, around 100 homes are expected to be completed, including projects such as Kastanjelaan and Nieuw Gelle phase 3. In addition, approximately 37 social housing units will be delivered in 2026, including those at Burgemeester Bosmastraat, Het Weurden/Huininkmaatstraat, and Kleine Parallelweg phase 1.
Housing construction planning list
To maintain oversight of future housing construction, the municipal executive recently finalised the 2026 housing construction planning list. This list includes housing projects totalling 1,362 homes in the coming years. Given that not all plans ultimately go ahead, the municipality has opted for this scale to ensure a realistic overview. The list provides a clear picture of the projects currently underway in Winterswijk.
Housing agreement
As part of the regional housing agreement, Winterswijk committed to delivering 900 homes between 2022 and 2030. Based on current plans and completed homes, the municipality is on track to meet this target. The local ambition remains to add approximately 1,400 homes by 2035.
