First lapwing egg of Achtkarspelen found by Rinze van der Ploeg
Rinze van der Ploeg from Kootstertille has discovered the first lapwing egg in the municipality of Achtkarspelen. Van der Ploeg found the egg on Thursday, March 12, at 7:05 AM near Augustinusga.
Yesterday, in the rain, Van der Ploeg had spent the entire day searching without success. However, he did observe a pair of lapwings actively moving around a grassy plot. At that moment, other people were nearby, so Van der Ploeg assumed there was no need to check that area further.
“Since I hadn’t found an egg yet this morning, I decided to take another quick look. And sure enough, there I found the nest with one egg,” Van der Ploeg explained.
On Thursday morning, a small ceremony was held at the edge of the meadow. Rinze received flowers, the finder’s reward, and a certificate from Mayor Jouke Douwe de Vries.
