New Experience Route Almelo–Nordhorn officially opened: discovering together across the border
Between the water cities of Almelo and Nordhorn lies a cycling experience, the Beleefroute. The Beleefroute is a journey along the historic Almelo–Nordhorn Canal, connecting both cities. The route takes cyclists past idyllic spots, old locks, characteristic buildings, and traces of their shared textile past – a piece of history that has linked the Netherlands and Germany for decades.
A route to experience – on both sides of the border
The Beleefroute invites residents of both cities, as well as those in the towns in between, to explore the surrounding area. There is also a German-language version starting from Nordhorn. The cycling route is approximately 40 kilometers long.
Councillor Jeffrey Hinnen: “The Beleefroute perfectly illustrates how our regions strengthen each other – not just in governance, but especially outdoors, along the water and through the shared landscape.”
Collecting the cycling route
The maps for the Beleefroute can be picked up at well-known points. The route can also be accessed via the app. More information is available at www.visittwente.nl, where the route can also be downloaded.
