Mr. Van der Staaij is a lawyer and former politician of the Reformed Political Party (SGP). Since June 1, 2024, he has served as a Councillor in the Advisory Division of the Council of State.
From May 19, 1998, to December 5, 2023, he was a member of the House of Representatives; from March 27, 2010, to August 25, 2023, as leader of the SGP and parliamentary group leader in the House of Representatives.
