New artworks welcome visitors to the Museum Passage
Apeldoorn’s city centre has gained two striking new artworks. In the Museum Passage, between CODA and the ACEC building, two lantern-like sculptures by Apeldoorn artist Ferry Staverman have been installed. This gives the route from the car park to the city centre a vibrant and eye-catching entrance.
The two works by Staverman—a bright pink “gear” sculpture and a striking yellow-green silhouette—are real eye-catchers for visitors entering the city centre from Roggestraat. The lantern-like artworks stand out for their colour and playful form.
The sculptures were previously part of the *Boomkroonjuwelen* (Tree Crown Jewels) exhibition in Stadspark Berg en Bos, where they hung for two years as colourful adornments in the trees. The artworks were part of the *Koninklijke Veluwe* project, a collaboration between Apeldoorn Partners, ACEC, Accres and the Municipality of Apeldoorn.
After the exhibition ended, the two works by Staverman became available for a new location; that spot has now been found between ACEC and CODA. Visitors entering the city centre via the car park will now be greeted by these striking artworks right away.
Festive unveiling
On Friday afternoon, 27 February, the artworks were officially unveiled by Alderman for Culture Peter Messerschmidt and artist Ferry Staverman.
Alderman Messerschmidt: “With these artworks, we ensure a colourful welcome for everyone entering our city centre via the Museum Passage. Art in public spaces makes Apeldoorn surprising and lively. I am incredibly proud that we have been able to give these beautiful works a new home here.”
