Moniek van Bussel wins Apeldoorn poetry competition ‘Metamorfose’
The winner of the Apeldoorn poetry competition with the theme Metamorphosis has been announced. Moniek van Bussel’s submission was unanimously chosen by the jury as the most compelling work.
“The poem is strong in its simplicity. At the same time, it resonates deeply. You experience the continuous movement in this work. That makes it an excellent fit for the theme Metamorphosis,” the jury stated.
Moniek van Bussel’s reaction: "With my poem, I tried to capture Apeldoorn’s development, but also how its residents experience the city. It was the perfect opportunity for me to start writing more again."
During the national Poetry Week in January, the municipality of Apeldoorn, CODA, and the City Poet committee invited all residents to submit their own poems on the theme of ‘metamorphosis’. The city is changing and growing: new forms, new functions, new stories. Residents were asked to capture this transformation in words. Submissions were open until March 1, and nearly twenty residents responded to the call.
The winning poem will be prominently displayed at one of Apeldoorn’s construction projects, becoming part of the evolving city. The location chosen is Beekpark, where construction is making way for a green space.
In addition to the main prize, five honorable mentions were selected. These poems can be read on the CODA website and the page of the City Poet.
