Municipality launches trial with cheaper parking at Plein XIII
The municipality is launching a trial with different parking rates at Plein XIII. With this trial, the municipality aims to see whether people are willing to park their cars slightly further from the city centre if it is cheaper.
The trial is part of the parking tax regulations for 2026. Plein XIII will be designated as a separate zone (zone E). Cars will be registered using licence plate parking. This will allow the municipality to precisely monitor how the parking area is being used. The municipality will use this information to assess whether this helps to better distribute the congestion in the city centre.
Parking on Saturdays for €0.20
From Monday to Friday, parking will cost €2.00 per hour. There is also a day pass for €7.50. On Saturdays, parking is extra cheap: €0.20 for a maximum of three hours. For each subsequent hour, you will pay €2.00 per hour again.
With this pilot, we are making parking at the edge of the city centre extra attractive. This way, we hope to encourage visitors to park their cars just outside the city centre, while at the same time collecting valuable data to see what will work best for our city in the future. We also hope this will attract extra visitors.
The trial will run until December 31, 2026. After that, the municipality will decide whether to continue with it.
