Construction of Wind Farm De Pals moves closer
Good news for Wind Farm De Pals: the financing has been secured (also known as financial close). This means the project is financially certain and construction can begin soon. Along the A67, between the De Pals nature area and the Belgian border, four wind turbines will soon be built. The turbines will have a tip height of 240 metres and will generate clean energy for around 22,000 households. Project developer Renewable Factory is responsible for the development and implementation.
From plan to execution
After an intensive preparatory phase, during which objections from nature and environmental organisations led to adjustments to certain aspects of the Wind Farm De Pals plans, the environmental permit was finalised in July 2024 and the project received the green light. Now that financing has been secured and all contracts have been signed, construction can really begin. Paul Sjoerds, project developer for sustainable energy projects at Renewable Factory: "After years of preparation, we are proud that the financing is in place. This is the starting signal for the construction of Wind Farm De Pals, with which we will soon be able to supply thousands of households with clean energy."
In the coming period, the first work will begin, including laying cables for the grid connection and preparatory work such as the construction of access roads and foundations. The wind farm will be built in phases. The turbines are expected to generate sustainable energy from 2027.
Benefits for the area
The wind farm not only generates green electricity, but also benefits the surrounding area. Around 60 hectares of new nature will be created in the area around the wind farm. Of this, 8.8 hectares is mandatory compensation for nature that will be lost due to the construction of the wind farm. The remaining 50 hectares is additional and will make the area greener and more attractive for animals, plants and visitors.
In addition, the municipality will receive compensation for the purchased land and an annual amount based on the amount of energy generated. This money will be used for projects that improve the living environment. Alderman Fons d'Haens: "With the arrival of Wind Farm De Pals, we are taking a big step towards a more sustainable Bladel. At the same time, we believe it is important that the surrounding area also benefits. We will invest the proceeds in projects that contribute to nature, biodiversity, recreation and sustainable agriculture. This will create a future-proof landscape that everyone can enjoy."
