Administrative Period 2022-2026
Now that the administrative period 2022–2026 is almost over, the municipality of Boekel looks back. What has been done and achieved in the past four years? Here is an overview of the most important developments.
Mayor Caroline van den Elsen
The Strength of Boekel
Boekel is characterized as a strong rural municipality with three beautiful cores, each with its own identity. The future vision ‘The Strength of Boekel’, established in 2024, shows how we envision our municipality of Boekel in 2040 and what we consider important. We have recorded our ambitions and wishes in the areas of housing, living, working, and sustainability in this vision and act accordingly.
Financial Health
Throughout the entire college program 2022-2026, we have managed to realize a balanced budget and a positive annual account result each year. Over the past four years, the focus has been on investing in the facilities of our villages Boekel, Venhorst, and Huize Padua. The municipality of Boekel is financially healthy and has its finances in order. This allows us to absorb any setbacks. Also in the years when we expect to receive less money from the national government.
Service Provision
We continuously focus on flexible and personal service provision where the citizen is central. We attach great importance to the opinion of the residents, including initiatives that lead to a pleasant living environment. We try to be as close as possible to the citizen, the association life, and the entrepreneurs. The starting point "What does the citizen gain from this?" is central. Advantages include short lines, committed employees, and short waiting times.
Alderman Matt Kanters
Housing
Public housing is of crucial importance. Especially in this time when the housing market faces major challenges. The demand for housing has increased significantly, while prices have risen. By actively focusing on public housing, we can not only meet the current housing needs but also create a pleasant living environment where everyone feels at home. In the municipality of Boekel, an enormous number of houses have been built in the past four years. Boekel is the construction king of the province and we are proud of that! Projects such as De Burgt, De Biezen, De Schutboom, and De Run have been completed or are in development. Together with partners such as PeelrandWonen and various developers, hundreds of houses have been realized. All these new houses ensure that the municipality of Boekel remains a lively and attractive municipality to live, live, and work in.
Center Development
In addition to the construction of De Zuidwand, two other characteristic projects have been started for the center of Boekel. The project ‘Dorpshart 2027’ ensures a future-proof square, with space for events, stays, parking, and mobility. The next step in center development is the redevelopment of the Nia Domo area, the park, and the former Regenboog location. Boekel is growing and therefore it is important that the level of facilities also grows with the village. Within the project ‘Hof van Boekel’, the plan is currently being further elaborated for this area. This plan includes the scenario in which the community house Nia Domo is demolished and replaced by a new multifunctional accommodation. The construction of a new school is also part of the plan. Furthermore, space is provided for a building with care functions and houses, and the park receives a quality impulse.
Natural and Sustainable Boekel
A green and sustainable living environment is of great value to our municipality. We already have many beautiful places to be proud of, but there are also plenty of opportunities to strengthen and make it more sustainable. With the Groen Program, we are taking concrete steps. We focus on four important themes: (green) experience, climate, biodiversity, and participation. We want everyone to be able to enjoy an attractive, healthy living environment. At the same time, the consequences of climate change call for action. We must prepare our public space for heat and extreme rainfall and give nature, such as plants and animals, more space. We do this together with our residents and organizations. Examples are projects in the field of home insulation, the heat transition, sustainable energy, and the removal of hardening.
Alderman Jeanne van Eert
Mobility
The municipality of Boekel is literally in motion. Various developments are taking place in the field of mobility and space. For example, the construction of the new bypass has resulted in better accessibility and a quieter traffic situation in the center of Boekel. In the municipality, a lot of construction is taking place on new houses and the center of Boekel is being renovated, whereby the traffic structure is being adapted. The latter also applies to the new neighborhoods. In addition, the problems on the east-west routing have led to the construction of a new east-west connection. This new connection should further reduce traffic in the center of Boekel and provide good access to the De Burgt neighborhood.
Prevention Vision – ‘Good Better Boekel’
By investing in prevention, we are building a healthier, stronger, and more connected community. Residents also speak positively about the service provision in the field of care and welfare. We believe in the power of prevention; what can residents do themselves for their health and well-being. In the power of togetherness, where neighbors, associations, and organizations support each other. And in a living environment that invites you to healthy behavior, meeting, and development. We focus on equal opportunities for everyone; an inclusive society in which everyone can participate and feel welcome. This is expressed in the prevention vision, which was developed in collaboration with residents, professionals, and partners from the entire municipality. The DorpsTeam Boekel, where residents with questions for help in the field of social work, debt counseling, Wmo, and Youth can turn, has been strengthened with a prevention team. This prevention team focuses on the construction work in the neighborhood together with Peelrand Wonen, caregivers, volunteers, youth work, and other activities that are preventive in nature. During the past college period, we have also realized independent client support.
Sports Facilities
In the past four years, the outdoor sports facilities have been maintained and brought up to standard. The facilities of the following sports associations look (soon) great thanks to the contribution of the municipality: Handboogvereniging Doele Willem III, Manege Rutger van Herpenstichting, Hockeyclub Boekel, RKSV Venhorst, and VV Boekel Sport. The municipality considers sports and exercise, supporting associations, and maintaining the level of facilities important pillars of our community. In addition to the level of facilities, investment has also been made in the establishment of Stichting Kwiek – a foundation that, with a subsidy from the municipality, facilitates sports and exercise in both the outdoor area and our sports halls and gyms.
Aldermen Jeanne van Eert and Matt Kanters
Experience Boekel
The municipality of Boekel wants to be an attractive municipality where everyone likes to stay and spend their free time. There is a rich cultural life and we can be proud of that. We have therefore consciously chosen to bundle the topics of art, culture, tourism, and recreation in the vision ‘Experience Boekel’. Both residents and tourists use the recreational and cultural facilities in the municipality in their free time. With this new vision and the resulting action points, we strengthen this leisure time. Examples of this are the improvement of the recreational cycling and walking paths and the marking of the Peelrandbreuk as a unique landscape phenomenon.
