Pupils visit town hall and get acquainted with the children's council
Over the past few weeks, Year 7 pupils from all four primary schools in the municipality of Boekel visited the town hall. During these interactive afternoons, they got a behind-the-scenes look at how local government works. Mayor Van den Elsen explained in an accessible way how the municipality operates, who governs it, and how decisions are made. This all took place in the council chamber, which in itself was an impressive experience.
In addition to the mayor’s explanation, the pupils were given a tour of the town hall. During the tour, various civil servants explained their work for the municipality. The pupils were also able to take a look inside the town hall and participated in a quiz, which allowed them to test their knowledge about the municipality in a fun way.
The pupils also met the children’s council. Last year, the municipality of Boekel established the first children’s council, which has proven to be a great success. The council members are actively engaged in topics they find important.
We hope the pupils are now enthusiastic about joining the children’s council themselves. We are looking for new, motivated pupils who would like to contribute their ideas and help make decisions on matters that are important to them and to the municipality. You can register until May 7. The children’s council will then be renewed in July. More information is available at: www.boekel.nl/kindercollege.
