Together we ensure visible and experiential heritage of Boxtel
On 17 March, the municipal executive of Boxtel adopted the new heritage policy plan for Boxtel 2026-2030. This plan outlines how the municipality intends to manage Boxtel’s valuable heritage. Heritage tells the (pre)historic story of Boxtel. We want to pass on these Boxtel stories, locations, and objects to future generations. It is therefore important that the municipality handles them with care. The heritage policy plan will become part of the yet-to-be-developed environmental programme TRECK, which covers tourism, recreation, heritage, culture, and the arts.
Collaboration with residents and organisations
The municipality considers collaboration essential. Not only within the organisation itself, but especially with residents, associations, and businesses. Heritage is no longer an isolated matter. Knowledge of the past helps us make Boxtel more beautiful and attractive for both residents and visitors.
Councillor Désiré van Laarhoven comments:
“By integrating heritage into other sectors, it becomes better preserved and more experiential. This offers many opportunities for synergy. Attention to the redevelopment and sustainability of monuments is important, because when monuments are used and inhabited, they are best protected.”
Engaging with the community
To develop the heritage policy plan, we consulted museums and groups working on (intangible and natural) heritage in Boxtel.
The councillor expresses his gratitude to everyone who contributed: “Heritage is the foundation for social cohesion. Boxtel has an active association life and living traditions that volunteers can experience and pass on. We want to encourage and facilitate this. That is why I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to all volunteers and organisations that contributed to the creation of this heritage policy plan. We hope that everyone will continue to engage enthusiastically with the further development of the implementation programme and the execution of the actions and projects.”
Four clear principles
- The heritage base is better organised
- Better preservation of heritage for the future
- Boxtel’s heritage is more accessible, visible, and experiential
- Heritage is made more relevant to younger generations
The heritage policy plan includes an implementation programme for 2026-2028. This outlines projects to be carried out in the coming years, helping us achieve our objectives and heritage principles. Progress will be discussed annually with all stakeholders.
Together, we ensure that Boxtel’s heritage remains visible, that everyone can experience it, and that it is ready for the future!
