Spring is knocking on the door
"Last weekend, the clocks were set forward to daylight saving time. The evenings are already growing longer, and here in Deurne, we’ve planted peas, tomatoes, bell peppers, and all the other little plants that will provide us with fresh vegetables this summer. Spring is a time of expectation and promise. So too was the opening of the tourist season last Sunday. In many places around the municipality, the public had the chance to discover what Deurne has to offer. After a pleasant walk in the Peel, I myself visited the Toon Kortooms Park—and I certainly wasn’t alone!"
This week, too, is filled with new expectations. On Tuesday, we said goodbye to the ‘old’ municipal council. Its members have spent the past few years wholeheartedly working to make Deurne a little more beautiful and better every day. On Wednesday, the ‘new’ municipal council was installed. These 23 members will now dedicate themselves just as passionately to the interests of Deurne and all its residents over the next four years.
With the election results as a starting point, the parties are now looking to form a coalition—a group of parties that will jointly shape the future of Deurne. As mayor, I naturally follow this process with interest, but it is the political parties themselves that will make the agreements together. Once those agreements are clear, the council will appoint the aldermen who, alongside the council, will implement them.
The coming weekend is Easter. Whether you are religious or not, Easter is the celebration of a new beginning—and in this season, that feels particularly fitting and hopeful. I will be celebrating with our extended families. I wish you all a wonderful Easter!"
