Not today: Deventer takes action against digital crime
In Deventer and the rest of Eastern Netherlands, there will be extra attention for digital crime on Thursday, 2 April with the regional action day ‘Not today’. This is much needed. In the Netherlands, more than 6,500 people fall victim to online fraud every day, such as phishing, scams or hacks.
Everyone is at risk
Young people, the elderly and entrepreneurs: everyone is at risk. The consequences are often severe, such as financial loss and stress. Criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and perpetrators are difficult to trace. The question is not if it will happen to you, but when.
Mayor Ron König: “The number of incidents such as phishing, digital scams and blackmail via social media has increased nationwide by as much as 46% in recent years. Anyone can fall victim to it, including young people. That is why the municipality of Deventer is supporting this action day, among other things by raising awareness in primary schools. This way, we reach both the students and their parents.”
Activities
In the week of 2 April, there will be free activities, such as workshops and meetings. Residents will receive practical tips on how to better protect themselves against digital crime.
