Birth tree planted for new residents born in 2025
On Saturday, March 14, the birth tree was planted for all children born in Dongen in 2025. The tree is a swamp cypress and symbolizes strength and flexibility. It is located at Lange Veertel 38 in 's Gravenmoer and was planted by 32 parents along with aldermen René Jansen and Ankie de Hoon.
As in previous years, a time capsule has been buried beneath the tree. Parents or caregivers placed a wish for their child in the time capsule. A plaque with the birth year 2025 of all the children for whom this tree was planted will also be placed near the tree.
Second birth tree
The planting of a birth tree is taking place for the second time. The birth of a child is a special moment. With a birth tree, we celebrate the arrival of the newest residents and contribute to a green and sustainable environment for future generations. The tree will grow alongside the children and will always remain a place where families can return. It is essentially a tree of life.
The birth tree from last year can be found at Minister Ruys de Beerenbrouckstraat, on the corner of Biezen and Hoge Ham. This is a Thuja Occidentalis, which represents a healthy and sustainable life.
Take-home sapling
Everyone also received a sapling to plant at home. This sapling will grow alongside the children as well. A beautiful symbol and keepsake for at home that was well received.
Another birth tree planned for next year
This is the second year that parents are planting a birth tree together as a lasting reminder of the birth of their child. Another birth tree will also be planted next year, to commemorate the newest residents born in 2026. Parents will receive a flyer with information about this when registering the birth of their child and can of course sign up to be present when the tree is planted next year.
