End of the council period: Looking back on four years of building villages where people can live comfortably
Following the elections, the current council of the Municipality of Dronten reflects on its term in office. The review of the 2022–2026 council programme highlights what has been achieved in these four years and which steps are already visible in Biddinghuizen, Dronten and Swifterbant.
Growing in a way that suits the municipality
The Municipality of Dronten will continue to grow in the coming years. That is why careful thought has been given in the past period to the locations where new homes can be built and how the villages can remain pleasant and recognisable in the future. Residents contributed their ideas at meetings and during the citizens’ council. Their input, such as the importance of peace, space, greenery and strong villages, played a key role. In total, 955 new homes have been built and new residential areas have been prepared, such as Dronten-South and Swifterbant South. Plans for the longer term have also been developed in Biddinghuizen and Swifterbant.
People shape society
In recent years, efforts have been made in all villages to create facilities that make it easier for people to meet. In Swifterbant, community centre De Kombuis opened; in Biddinghuizen, a new exercise route was introduced; and sports facilities have been improved in all villages. The library service has been revamped, giving residents more opportunities to meet, learn and take part in activities together.
Working together for a green and safe living environment
Extra trees have been planted, verges improved, and the mobile recycling centre and the Circular Crafts Centre have been added. These help residents separate waste more easily and reuse items. Progress has also been made in the area of safety. Young people receive more support to stay safe online, the crisis organisation has been updated and the Dronten Anti-Crime Team helps to identify and tackle criminal activities more quickly. This strengthens safety and the sense of security in the villages and rural areas.
A solid foundation
The past period has mainly been used to lay a strong foundation. Area managers now work in all three centres, maintaining daily contact with residents and local organisations. Communication has also become clearer and residents can handle more matters online. The way the municipality operates, listens and collaborates has therefore improved further. With these foundations in place, the Municipality of Dronten is well equipped to manage the growth of the coming years. We will continue to build villages where people not only live, but also thrive, meet each other and feel at home.
