First residents receive keys to new neighborhood 't Luweland in Swifterbant
The first residents have received the keys to their new homes in ’t Luweland, the new sustainable residential neighborhood on the southern edge of Swifterbant. Alderman Van Bergen officially opened the new neighborhood alongside one of the first residents and key parties involved in its development: BPD | Bouwfonds Gebiedsontwikkeling, BPD Woningfonds, and FijnWonen. The Swifterbant village association Dorpsbelangen Swifterbant also warmly welcomed the new residents. The first houses in ’t Luweland are now occupied.
Alderman Peter van Bergen: “I am delighted to welcome the first resident of the new ’t Luweland neighborhood. A major milestone in the development of the village of Swifterbant. I wish all new residents a pleasant home in this beautiful new neighborhood. I encourage residents to participate in the vibrant community life and make use of the excellent facilities that the village of Swifterbant has to offer.”
Extremely fast construction time
The residents who received their keys today are moving into one of the first mid-rent single-family homes rented out by BPD Woningfonds. These homes are approximately 100–112 m² in size, feature five rooms, a garden, and are fully sustainably finished. In the coming years, additional phases will follow with additional rental and purchase options. Notably, the construction time was extremely fast: construction of these affordable homes began in the fall, and now the first residents are already moving in. BPD is collaborating with FijnWonen, which, in its own innovative housing factory, can construct the shell of new low-maintenance homes in a single day. The homes essentially consist of separate elements—floors, walls, and facades—that are assembled on-site at lightning speed. Where only a foundation is visible in the morning, a complete shell can be seen by the end of the afternoon. “Thanks to this industrial construction method, we can help provide fine homes across the Netherlands more quickly and smartly, and that includes Swifterbant,” says Menso Oosting, director at FijnWonen.
Arné van Haver, Asset Manager at BPD Woningfonds: “The rapid completion of these first single-family homes marks a wonderful starting point for the new ’t Luweland neighborhood. It’s fantastic to see that many tenants come from Flevoland and that especially young professionals are finding their first place here. This will create a lively new community from day one.”
A green, sustainable, and future-proof neighborhood
Over the coming years, BPD Bouwfonds Gebiedsontwikkeling will develop ’t Luweland into a modern, nature-inclusive, and green residential neighborhood with approximately 750 homes spread across multiple phases. The neighborhood will include homes for young professionals, families, seniors, and those looking to move up the property ladder, ensuring a diverse group of residents can continue to live in Swifterbant. The neighborhood will feature a mix of terraced houses, semi-detached homes, detached houses, and apartments. These include social rental homes, mid-rent homes, and owner-occupied properties. The homes in ’t Luweland are fully gas-free and thus future-proof. They feature underfloor heating, optimal insulation, and are powered by air-source heat pumps and solar panels.
The green layout, playgrounds, wide sidewalks, and nature-inclusive measures—such as nesting facilities for birds and bats and ample space for water management—make ’t Luweland a future-proof and family-friendly living environment.
