Measures to address waterlogging in the Geul region: NRD available for review
Municipalities, Waterschap Limburg and Provincie Limburg are collaborating to reduce waterlogging in the Geul river basin. A study is currently underway to explore possible measures for the entire area. From 20 March to 30 April, you can provide feedback on the Scope and Detail Level Note (Notitie Reikwijdte en Detailniveau, NRD). This document outlines, among other things, which variants (packages of measures) will be examined.
Throughout the Geul region, multiple and sometimes far-reaching measures are needed to better protect residents. These include measures such as retaining water more effectively, temporarily storing water, increasing the drainage capacity of streams, and protective measures like dikes and embankments. Finding the ideal package of measures is a complex puzzle.
Municipalities, Waterschap Limburg and Provincie Limburg are working together on this within the Water Safety and Space Limburg (Waterveiligheid en Ruimte Limburg, WRL) programme. During the study, WRL is examining different combinations of measures (variants). By the end of 2027, the authorities involved will jointly select a preferred variant. This comprehensive package of measures will then be further developed and implemented.
Scope and Detail Level Note: share your opinion!
WRL is examining the impact of the various variants on the surrounding area. The Scope and Detail Level Note (NRD) outlines what WRL will investigate and how the preferred variant will be determined. The NRD is available for review from 20 March to 30 April. Everyone is welcome to provide feedback. You can find the NRD at www.wachtnietopwater.nl/geul.
