Eijsden-Margraten commits to a sporty and healthy South Limburg
Exercise and physical activity are important for the health of all Limburg residents. Regular exercise and staying active keep us fit, healthy, and contribute to mental well-being. That is why the Province of Limburg and sixteen municipalities in South Limburg recently signed the regional Sports and Exercise Agreement for South Limburg together. This took place at community center ’t Geboew in Schin op Geul.
We aim to ensure that everyone in Limburg can exercise and stay active in a safe and healthy environment. This applies to all residents, regardless of background, income, or disability. We also want to prepare sports facilities for the future. That is why the agreement includes three key ambitions:
- A socially safe sports environment.
- Exercise and physical activity for everyone (Everyone Can Play Sports).
- A strong and future-proof swimming and exercise landscape.
The coming period will focus on implementation, and the ambitions will be further developed into concrete projects. The municipality of Eijsden-Margraten will work on this together with the Province of Limburg and the municipalities of Beek, Beekdaelen, Brunssum, Gulpen-Wittem, Heerlen, Kerkrade, Landgraaf, Maastricht, Meerssen, Simpelveld, Sittard-Geleen, Stein, Vaals, Valkenburg aan de Geul, and Voerendaal.
