New Storybook Schatten van Eijsden-Margraten Supports Language-Rich Start for Children
Giving all children a good start is the goal of Taalrijke Start Zuid-Limburg. After the introduction of this program late last year, all municipalities in Zuid-Limburg are now taking a new step. Starting in March, all parents of a newborn baby will receive the storybook Schatten van Eijsden-Margraten during their first visit to the well-baby clinic.
With this book, we help parents to start talking, singing, and playing with their baby from day one. In the first years of life, the brain of young children grows incredibly fast and the foundation for language is laid.
Why a Storybook?
In the Netherlands, one in four children starts school with a language delay. And once someone falls behind, they often never catch up. The first 1000 days are of great importance. During this period, no less than 80% of the connections in the brain are made.
However, approximately 40% of parents do not know how important it is for language development to talk and engage together. With Schatten van Eijsden-Margraten, parents are inspired in a simple way to get started with this at home.
Together Strong for a Language-Rich Start
Taalrijke Start is an initiative of all Zuid-Limburg municipalities, the libraries, GGD Zuid-Limburg, Trendbreuk, the Province of Limburg, Stadsregio Parkstad, CZ, and Taalschatten. They work together on one clear mission: to let all children start well-prepared in primary education. This joint effort was celebrated last fall during the launch of Taalrijke Start Zuid-Limburg, in the presence of Princess Laurentien.
