Preferred location chosen for new joint primary school in Enkhuizen
The municipal executive board has selected a preferred location for a new joint school facility for three primary schools and childcare in the city centre. The schools involved are Het Mozaïek (Spaans Leger location), De Tweemaster and Montessorischool De Wegwijzer.
The plans stem from the Strategic Integrated Housing Plan for Primary Education 2025–2040, which was adopted by the municipal council on 22 October 2024. The aim is to ensure future-proof school buildings for primary education.
Four locations examined
Together with the school boards Present and Stichting Kopwerk, the municipality examined four possible locations:
- The current location of De Tweemaster;
- The current location of Montessorischool De Wegwijzer;
- The current location of Het Mozaïek (Spaans Leger);
- A new location in the Nijevoert district.
The location in Nijevoert was ruled out because it is too far from Enkhuizen’s city centre.
The other locations were thoroughly examined. This included assessing spatial possibilities, accessibility, traffic conditions, social integration and the feasibility of procedures. Various municipal departments and the schools involved contributed to this research.
Preference for Montessorischool De Wegwijzer location
Based on the research, the municipal executive board has designated the current location of Montessorischool De Wegwijzer as the preferred site. This location scores well to very well on most criteria.
Next steps
The municipal council previously made a preparatory budget available. The school boards and the municipality can now start developing the plans.
Over the coming period, they will work on a spatial and functional set of requirements. Based on this, the municipal executive board will later request an investment budget from the municipal council for the construction of the new school.
During this phase, possible combinations with other facilities will also be considered, for example:
- The redevelopment of the building of Buurtvereniging Plan Zuid next to Montessorischool;
- The possible construction of a gymnasium at the new school.
Local residents to be involved
In a subsequent phase, local residents will be actively involved in the plans. Participation will follow the municipality’s participation policy.
