Construction of Next Phase of the Bloemenbuurt District Begins
Construction of the next phase in the Bloemenbuurt district will begin this spring. The necessary permits for building 28 homes at the corner of Asterstraat and Begoniastraat have been secured. Alderman Jan Franx, Liselot Reversma (board member of Welwonen), and Camiel Honselaar (commercial director of HSB Bouw) unveiled the construction sign yesterday.
The 28 residential units consist of 12 apartments and 16 upstairs and downstairs homes. The apartments are designed to be age-inclusive, meaning residents can remain in their homes even if their mobility declines. Additionally, there will be ample green space, including an inner courtyard garden that residents can enjoy. The municipality, in collaboration with Welwonen, is also enhancing the green areas.
With this project, Welwonen will ultimately provide 112 homes that are more comfortable, sustainable, and better suited to the needs of residents.
We are seeing an increase in households with fewer members. That’s why we are also building more apartments for young adults and seniors, according to Liselot Reversma.
Comfort for Seniors
Seniors often live in single-family homes that may be too large for them. If they can move into a comfortable, smaller home or apartment, many are willing to do so. This frees up larger homes for families, helping to stimulate the housing market.
Through Welwonen’s neighborhood renewal in the Bloemenbuurt, we are creating rental homes for various target groups in the municipality. And this is much needed. The original district consisted mainly of single-family homes. In today’s tight housing market, there is high demand for rental homes for seniors and young people. The municipality is contributing to the renovation and redesign of public spaces, including green areas and roads. The renewed Bloemenbuurt will once again be a wonderful neighborhood where Enkhuizen residents can live with pride.
Preserving the Character of the Working-Class Neighborhood
The new construction is notable for its efforts to preserve the character of the working-class neighborhood. The brickwork has been designed to closely match the previously completed row houses in Phase 1 and the original architecture.
We aim to deliver the neighborhood renovated and future-ready to its residents. We ask for your patience, as we understand these construction activities may be disruptive. However, we hope residents will take pride in a neighborhood where they enjoy living and where everyone has a place.
The 28 homes are expected to be completed by the end of 2027. Meanwhile, Welwonen is proceeding with Phase 3, located between Begoniastraat, Asterstraat, and Goudsbloemstraat. If everything goes according to plan, the first shovel will go into the ground later this year. Phase 4, between Goudsbloemstraat, Asterstraat, and Violenstraat, is scheduled for mid-2027. The entire neighborhood renewal is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
