Mrs Drenthe-Hoogendijk celebrates her 100th birthday
Mrs Drenthe-Hoogendijk from Dirksland recently celebrated her 100th birthday. A special milestone that Mayor Ada Grootenboer-Dubbelman did not let pass unnoticed. The celebration took place in the recreation hall of Vroonlande, where her son Joost serenaded her in Flakkees, to the great delight of those present.
Mrs Drenthe’s life has been marked by both highs and lows. During the war years, her father was arrested by the Germans and returned just before the liberation. She attended the Commercial HBS and worked at the International Bank. She later worked in the Dutch East Indies, where she married and enjoyed a happy marriage. She had three children, four grandsons and eight great-grandchildren. Music, poetry and books have always been her great passions. Even today, for example, she still listens to classical music and, until the age of 98, she still drove a car.
Mrs Drenthe-Hoogendijk was active for many years on the board of the Remonstrant Congregation. “What always strikes me about my fellow believers is their attention, warmth and assistance,” she says. Even in old age, she continues to enjoy life to the full: singing, reading and the love of her family remain a source of joy for her. Her 100th birthday was thus a celebration of memories, warmth and music – just as she has lived her life.
