Royal honour for Mrs Aat Breeman-Melaard from Den Bommel
Mayor Ada Grootenboer-Dubbelman presented a royal honour on behalf of His Majesty the King to Mrs Arendje Anna Breeman-Melaard from Den Bommel. She was appointed Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Mrs Breeman-Melaard has dedicated herself to the community with heart and soul for decades. Together with her husband Leen, she worked for 35 years as a sexton couple for the Reformed Church in Den Bommel. When her husband was no longer able to perform this work due to a serious accident, she took over the full sexton duties herself. Even after his passing, she remained active, including helping with special services and cleaning the church building.
In addition, she managed the building “Bij de Bron”, actively assisted in the Creaclub, and her soup is a firm favourite during the annual fair in Den Bommel. She also organised the joint Christmas celebrations of the Reformed and Dutch Reformed churches and delivered the church magazine “De Zaaier” to subscribers.
Since 2017, she has also been active as a volunteer at Nieuw Rijsenburgh, where she runs the shop, helps with flower arranging, bingo and various other activities. Her enthusiasm and involvement make her a highly valued member of this organisation.
Mayor Grootenboer-Dubbelman expressed her great appreciation: “Mrs Breeman, you make the difference, with a warm heart and quiet strength.” She congratulated her on behalf of the municipal executive of Goeree-Overflakkee.
