Mayor and aldermen in action during NLdoet
On March 13, Mayor Pieter Verhoeve, along with a delegation of aldermen and directors from the municipality of Gouda, volunteered at Stadsakker Gouda. The activity took place as part of NLdoet, the largest volunteer action in the Netherlands.
At Stadsakker Gouda, vegetables and fruits are grown sustainably on a plot of land at the Goverwellepad in Gouda. With a large group of volunteers and 2 professional sustainable gardeners, Stadsakker Gouda cultivates 2 hectares of land. The ambition of Stadsakker Gouda is to feed 400 people in 2026.
During NLdoet, the flower garden and field were prepared for the new growing season. Paths were maintained and provided with a fresh layer of wood chips, flowers were sown, irrigation hoses were rolled out, and fruit bushes were weed-free and covered with chips. Despite the wind and rain, hard work was done and the atmosphere was great.
“Gouda volunteers are the invisible heroes of our society. They show what commitment is and that living together is about giving and sharing. And that everyone has a valuable role for their environment,” says care alderman Anna van Popering-Kalkman. “Whether they invest time in the sports club, maintain the community garden, guide young people, or provide care for the elderly – their efforts make the difference. I am proud to live in a city where so many people selflessly volunteer for others.”
