Lease signed: municipality opens new reception location
The municipal council of Hardinxveld-Giessendam has approved in December 2025 the opening of a third reception location and a HUB for Ukrainian refugees.
Following this decision, the municipality has entered into negotiations with the owner of the office building at Hakgriend 22. The lease agreement has now been signed, and the municipality is proceeding with the renovation and furnishing of the reception location.
Third reception location and HUB
The reception location will accommodate up to 100 Ukrainian refugees. The HUB will have space for up to 40 people. A HUB is a central point where Ukrainians register upon arrival in the region. They stay briefly in the HUB until they are assigned a permanent reception spot in the South Holland South region. Alderman Christa Hendriksen: "We are still investigating whether it is possible to merge one or more reception locations. We hope to have a definitive answer on this soon."
Planning
The municipality has already taken possession of the keys to the building. "We have appointed a project leader and are actively collaborating in Dordrecht to learn from their approach. Together with the contractor, we are working on the plans and designs while simultaneously going through the permit process. This way, we ensure that, once everything is finalized, we can quickly start renovating the building and its surroundings," says Christa Hendriksen. The HUB is expected to be operational by August. The municipality aims to open the regular reception facility around the same time.
