We call on you: join the count against homelessness!
We are one of the 95 municipalities participating this year in the 4th ETHOS count of homelessness by Hogeschool Utrecht and Kansfonds. The aim of the count is to gain insight into the true scale and nature of the group of homeless people in Horst aan de Maas. Only then can effective policies be developed to address homelessness. The municipality is asking institutions and organizations that have contact with homeless people to register for the count.
Sleeping on a friend’s couch
Lack of adequate housing
The ETHOS count defines homelessness as a lack of adequate housing. This means that people who are often overlooked are also included, such as the young person sleeping on a friend’s couch or the divorced woman spending nights in her car while working during the day. Children, people over 65, and people without valid residence permits are also missing from current statistics, for example. It is important to make this hidden homelessness visible, as only then can effective policies be developed to solve the problem.
Registering counting organizations
The ETHOS count is a one-day count in a municipality or region, known as a point-in-time measurement. It is important that a wide variety of organizations and institutions map homeless people. That is why we are asking everyone who occasionally encounters homeless people to register for the count. This includes not only municipal services and social care organizations, but also community centers, churches, housing corporations, healthcare institutions, childcare organizations, schools, midwifery practices, and enforcement officers. The more diversity, the more complete the picture.
Those interested in participating can register with the municipality. Our contact details are listed at the bottom of this page.
