Contractor selected for new Korte Vaart sports hall
The municipality of Katwijk has reached an agreement with Ouwehand Bouw Plus for the renovation and construction of the Korte Vaart sports hall in Rijnsburg. The quality of the preliminary design will be fully preserved, including the lowered rear façade and the renewed façade materials. The characteristic old building will remain in place and will be made more sustainable, improving its energy label from G to A++++.
The new sports hall will feature two modern gymnasiums, multi-purpose activity spaces at various locations, and facilities for low-stimulus and interactive sports, following consultations with the disability platform. Seagull nuisance will also be reduced with a bird deterrent system.
Sustainable building materials, a heat pump system, and measures to reduce noise, lower electricity consumption, and provide cooling options during warm months have been selected.
“With this step, we are investing in a modern sports facility and also in a sustainable future for Rijnsburg. The new sports hall will be a place where sports, education, and community come together. I am proud that we are realizing this together with the local community and our partners,” said alderman Sonny Spek.
Planning
Construction is set to begin around the summer vacation of 2026. The sports hall is expected to be operational after the summer vacation in 2027. The Korte Vaart sports hall is part of a broader approach to indoor sports facilities in Rijnsburg.
