Help us map out homelessness in Krimpen aan den IJssel
On Tuesday, 12 May 2026, the fourth edition of the ETHOS count will take place across various regions in the Netherlands. The municipality of Krimpen aan den IJssel is participating as part of the Rotterdam region. Do you work with people who have no fixed place of residence? Or do you work with organisations that have contact with this vulnerable group? Then we need your help!
Sometimes visible, often hidden
The image of homelessness is often limited to people sleeping on the streets or in shelters. In reality, there are more people experiencing homelessness in the Netherlands than we think. This is because some groups are not counted. Think of young people moving from couch to couch at friends’ homes, women in emergency shelters, labour migrants who lose their sleeping arrangements when their work ends, or families forced to live in a car or a mobile home.
Because they do not always end up in official shelters, they remain invisible to policy makers. With the ETHOS count, we aim to change that.
The power of a single count day
ETHOS stands for European Typology of Homelessness and Housing Exclusion. The goal is to map all people experiencing homelessness in our region on a single day. Professionals will fill out questionnaires for the individuals they encounter. Completing the questionnaire takes a maximum of 7 minutes per person.
Who can be counted?
Anyone who regularly comes into contact with people in vulnerable housing situations can be counted. We are seeking help from schools, housing corporations, general practitioners, libraries and social work services, but also from harbour masters, anti-squatting organisations and sports clubs.
